This webinar tackles preconception care from a lifespan perspective. Preconception care is about optimising maternal health before conception to improve long-term health outcomes for both mother and child.

By definition, it involves identifying and addressing potential risks before pregnancy begins. Preconception Care should cover a range of risk factors, including infections, medications, diet, smoking, alcohol and drugs, and more. We know that these factors may alter the quality either of maternal circulation or the intrauterine environment and can have an impact on the developing embryo, sometimes through epigenetic mechanisms.
Restream this important conversation with a fantastic line-up of guest speakers and learn how you can support mothers-to-be.

31 July 2023 marked the dawn of a new era as labels identifying the harms of alcohol during pregnancy became mandatory on all packaged alcoholic beverages. Developed by the Food Standards Australia and New Zealand, the new standard label, declaring “Alcohol can cause lifelong harm to your baby”, empowers women to make the safe choice. Join our expert panel for a celebration of the collaborative effort that culminated in this landmark policy. We examine the underpinning evidence-base and the processes undertaken for consultation and implementation. We explore the impact of preventive policy in reducing alcohol harms in communities and we also hear from a mother with lived experience, ‘Amanda’. Finally, we take a look at what’s next for reducing the risk of prenatal alcohol exposure and FASD across Australia.
