FASD experience and training

FASD has been an area of special interest for me for a number of years. Since the process of being officially diagnosed with FASD has been a rather haphazard affair here in Victoria, it's meant that I can claim to have worked with only a few children who have been formally diagnosed with the condition. I am confident, however, that over the 30+ years I have been in clinical practice, I have worked with numerous children who definitely fit the FASD profile in terms of developmental history, clinical presentation and progress in school and/or therapy i.e. everything but the label. More specifically, these children have all presented with a complex range of issues impacting their speech, language, hearing, cognition, behaviour, learning and social skills. I've worked with the children themselves - in some instances, over a number of years - as well as liaising with their families, teachers, aides and the medical/allied health professionals on their management teams. Now that FASD is gaining traction in the medical-health sector and the justice systems here and overseas, I keep myself up-to-date with the relevant research and policy developments. I am an active FASD advocate on social media and am constantly building my FASD network.
